Arizona Teen Shot and Killed at Party

Our hearts and prayers at Forensics Guy, Inc. go out to the fam­ily of the vic­tim, 16 year old Sophia Palma.

According to news reports (see below), a firearm found by a fel­low party goer was thought to be unloaded after the mag­a­zine was removed. At some point some­one pointed the gun at Ms. Palma and pulled the trig­ger, only to find that there was still a car­tridge in the chamber.

It is cases like this that involve sense­less killings that strike a nerve in soci­ety. They also point out the lack of safe firearm han­dling edu­ca­tion in our society.

It’s a fact that firearms are preva­lent in the United States. No new laws will ever expunge all firearms that cur­rently exist. Gun safety pro­grams like the NRA’s Eddie Eagle pro­gram won’t pre­vent all shoot­ings like this one, but if these types of pro­grams were taught in schools, it would cer­tainly reduce the num­ber of youth shoot­ings of this type.

That’s why Forensics Guy, Inc. encour­ages oth­ers to fol­low in our foot­steps and vol­un­teer to teach such pro­grams to any youths who’s par­ents will allow it. Schools, Cub Scouts, and sports teams are excel­lent ways to find groups of chil­dren who might ben­e­fit from such education.
