Arizona Teen Shot and Killed at Party

Our hearts and prayers at Forensics Guy, Inc. go out to the family of the victim, 16 year old Sophia Palma.

According to news reports (see below), a firearm found by a fellow party goer was thought to be unloaded after the magazine was removed. At some point someone pointed the gun at Ms. Palma and pulled the trigger, only to find that there was still a cartridge in the chamber.

It is cases like this that involve senseless killings that strike a nerve in society. They also point out the lack of safe firearm handling education in our society.

It’s a fact that firearms are prevalent in the United States. No new laws will ever expunge all firearms that currently exist. Gun safety programs like the NRA’s Eddie Eagle program won’t prevent all shootings like this one, but if these types of programs were taught in schools, it would certainly reduce the number of youth shootings of this type.

That’s why Forensics Guy, Inc. encourages others to follow in our footsteps and volunteer to teach such programs to any youths who’s parents will allow it. Schools, Cub Scouts, and sports teams are excellent ways to find groups of children who might benefit from such education.
