Private labs are often needed to help per­form spe­cialty or quick turn-around time analy­sis. Sometimes it’s more cost effec­tive to pay an out­side pri­vate lab to per­form analy­sis, then to com­mit a sig­nif­i­cant por­tion of the crime lab staff for extended peri­ods of time on a single case.
