Here is another exam­ple of why crime labs should not be under the direct author­ity of law enforce­ment agen­cies. In this case, a crime lab sci­en­tist dis­cov­ered the cur­rent sys­tem had a prob­lem. He pro­posed a solu­tion to the prob­lem. The end result was he was fired, pos­si­bly due to the asso­ci­ated polit­i­cal fall-out.
