Help with an Eagle Scout Project

Greetings Forensic Science News readers.

As many of you know, I am active in my local scout­ing com­mu­nity. I received an email from a local Boy Scout who is work­ing on an Eagle Scout project that you might be able to help with. I have included the major­ity of the email, but would ask that if you can help, please send donated items to my com­pany address so that they arrive no later than April 3, 2010:

My name is James and I am work­ing on my Eagle Scout project to ben­e­fit Balsz Elementary School in Phoenix. I need your help.

The chil­dren at Balsz are from low-income fam­i­lies. 90% of the chil­dren at Balsz Elementary School qual­ify for a free or reduced-price lunch. For my Eagle Project, we will be cre­at­ing a gar­den area for the Kindergartner’s ecol­ogy unit. I will also be installing shelves and orga­niz­ing the Kindergarten “store” area where the Kindergartners can earn small items for good behav­ior and doing well on their school work. Unfortunately, right now the school has almost noth­ing for us to organize.

How You Can Help

As you are Spring Cleaning, please look for items to help the chil­dren at Balsz Elementary School. You can drop off new or gen­tly used items and I will make sure they get to the Balsz Elementary School Kindergartners. They need:

stick­ers
*
pen­cils
*
crayons
*
col­or­ing books
*
reg­u­lar read­ing books (for Kindergartners to read or adults to read to them)
*
stuffed ani­mals
*
fold­ers
*
lit­tle trin­kets from the dol­lar store

According to one Balsz Kindergarten teacher, “These kids don’t have much so they really are grate­ful for what­ever they can get.”

The Kindergarten teach­ers also need these items for their classroom:

Glue
*
Glue Sticks
