After being closed, the Houston PD crime laboratory is back open. Police chief Harold Hurtt wrote an article for a local newspaper discussing what happened to cause the lab to close, and what’s happened since then.
In the interests of fairness in future reporting, distinction should and must be made between past practices and current practices. HPD now has an entirely different crime lab — one that has obtained national accreditation. This is an independent testament to the implementation of many reforms and the effectiveness of the HPD crime lab.
Hurtt is chief of the Houston Police Department.
