Houston Police Department Crime Lab Open for Business

After being closed, the Houston PD crime lab­o­ra­tory is back open. Police chief Harold Hurtt wrote an arti­cle for a local news­pa­per dis­cussing what hap­pened to cause the lab to close, and what’s hap­pened since then.

In the inter­ests of fair­ness in future report­ing, dis­tinc­tion should and must be made between past prac­tices and cur­rent prac­tices. HPD now has an entirely dif­fer­ent crime lab — one that has obtained national accred­i­ta­tion. This is an inde­pen­dent tes­ta­ment to the imple­men­ta­tion of many reforms and the effec­tive­ness of the HPD crime lab.
