Is Sanfranciscoitious Catching in Illinois?

Besides San Francisco and Fresno California’s questionable practices involving drug chemistry work, it appears something might be amiss at the Illinois State Police. Kudos to the ISP for barring the analyst from further case work, and getting the information out, until the investigation is concluded. Hopefully the prosecutor office will inform the local defense community as the identity of the analyst.

From an article in The Chicago Tribune:

Illinois State Police officials say they’ve barred a scientist from their southwestern Illinois crime lab after calling into question some of his work in drug cases.

State police say the unidentified scientist at the Metro East Forensic Science Laboratory in Fairview Heights is suspected of not following strict internal quality controls in certain drug-chemistry cases.

State Police Capt. Scott Compton says it isn’t yet clear how many cases might be affected, although the forensic investigators with the agency are trying to pinpoint the issue’s scope. Results will be reported back to the agency that first submitted the case to the lab.
