It’s a bit scary to think that some trusted with working to help protect individuals’ rights could themselves be criminals. It’s worse to think they could be orchestrating attempts to have someone murdered.

Authorities say a legal assistant at the Maricopa County public defender’s office has been indicted after allegedly trying to arrange an assassination hit on a man who fell out of favor with his street gang.
Margaret Alvarado of Phoenix was charged with a count each of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation of first-degree murder, telecommunication fraud and two counts of assisting a criminal street gang.
