No word on who “they” are, but the Police Chief in San Francisco vows police officials responsible for allowing the conditions that allowed for the recent drug lab fiasco will be held accountable.
San Francisco Police Chief George Gascon says negligence by some police officials is partly to blame for a drug scandal at the city’s crime lab.
Gascon did not name specific individuals at a news conference on Friday, citing personnel protections. But he said the officials had failed to see signs of trouble. He said the department will hold people accountable although he did not elaborate.
The drug analysis unit of the crime lab has been shuttered since March after allegations surfaced that a former lab technician was skimming cocaine evidence. Prosecutors have dismissed hundreds of drug cases in the wake of the allegations.
Gascon says the department has reorganized how it investigates allegations of misconduct.
