So my son and I were playing Wii Mario Kart the other day, and a couple of the race tracks have an “end” to them. When you reach this end, they then have a creative way to transport you back to the beginning of the race in order to finish the remaining laps of the race.
In a couple of those tracks the racer enters into a rifled barrel, and is rapidly shot across the map, back to the beginning of the race track. Of course that is when my mind starts noticing things aren’t working correctly.
1) The rifling in the barrel has much to rapid of a twist. It would result in a highly unstable projectile leaving the barrel.
2) The barrel has more lands and grooves than a Marlin micro-grooved firearm. Those shallow grooves would hardly help grab those race cars and motorcycles and make them rotate as they pass down the barrel.
3) When the racers fly out the end of the barrel they aren’t rotating as they fly — that would have been a really cool touch.
But seriously my whole family has fun playing Mario Kart. My wife, son, and I would play Mario Kart DS for hours, and on weekends my wife’s parents would join in the fun. Now that we have the Wii version we can continue to enjoy the family fun using the Wiimotes.
