Excellent work Wisconsin. They were able to successfully eliminate their DNA backlog. How did they do it? Simple. They hired the number of forensic scientists to took to process the volume of work they had.
They could have eliminated their backlog even sooner (they started real attempts to reduce it in 2007), if they had out-sourced some of their backlog to the bevy of qualified, private DNA labs.
The backlog of DNA cases at the state’s crime labs has been eliminated, according to information released Wednesday by the state Department of Justice.
The backlog was eliminated by hiring 31 new DNA analysts in 2007 and creating space for them to work, according to a letter sent Wednesday from Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to Gov. Jim Doyle and other legislative leaders.
In the letter, Van Hollen says eliminating the backlog was his first priority when he took office in Jan. 2007.
